Phoenix House San Diego, Inc.

Brief Description of Agency
Phoenix House San Diego, Inc. provides both residential and non-residential services. Phoenix Academy San Diego, set in the beautiful mountains of Descanso, CA provides short-term and long-term residential care. The program offers a strength-based treatment continuum for teens (12-18) with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health problems. Since opening its doors in 1987, Phoenix Academy has distinguished itself as one of the most successful programs for the integrated treatment of youth and their families in San Diego County. Outpatient care for adolescents and their families is provided in San Diego and Carlsbad and consists of assessing and treating Substance-Use Disorders and mental health conditions. Phoenix House San Diego’s Teen Recovery Centers provide treatment consisting of case management, individual and group counseling, educational workshops, family services and sober recreational opportunities. The program may be used as a step up from routine outpatient services, or as a step down from residential care. The goal of treatment is to reach a fundamental commitment to change so that a struggling teen may live a productive drug-free life. The focus is to help teens move from lives of continual crisis to problem solving and conflict resolution, to make changes not only in negative and unhealthy behaviors, but in the attitudes underlying them. The residential and non-residential programs are structured on the Modified Therapeutic Community, a recognized evidence based treatment model, and they each integrate other best practices in the field to better serve the needs of teens. Program completion is individualized and based on goals attained. Programs are fully accredited by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs and by the California Alliance of Child and Family Services.
